During the course, you will develop advanced scientific skills, learn to design and use sophisticated measurement instrumentation and be able to model complex systems. You will acquire a sound knowledge of data analysis techniques and numerical methods, together with in-depth training in the latest technological developments. You will learn to work independently in scientific research, actively participating in technological innovation projects and collaborating with experts in the field.

You will also develop your English language skills.

You will have access to state-of-the-art teaching and research laboratories and the opportunity to participate in study trips abroad, thanks to the dual degree programme with the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen, the Erasmus+ programme and 14 outgoing mobility programmes in 10 non-European countries on four continents.

Training includes seminars, practical workshops and research projects, where you can apply your theoretical and experimental knowledge and skills.

You will be able to interact with internationally renowned lecturers and researchers and collaborate with a number of nearby research institutions, including INFNECT*FBK, and CNR.

Career Opportunities

The main areas of activity include

  • the promotion and development of scientific and technological innovation, as well as the design and management of technologies in areas related to the physical disciplines in industry, the environment, health and public administration;

  • the transfer of knowledge and technological know-how developed in basic research to the economic and production system;

  • the creation and use of complex models of reality in sectors other than science (banks, financial companies, consulting firms, etc.);

  • the dissemination of a high level of scientific culture, with particular reference to the various theoretical, experimental and applied aspects of classical and modern physics.

In addition, if you have obtained sufficient credits in the relevant scientific discipline groups (SSDs), you will be able to sit the admission tests for secondary school teacher training courses.

Further Studies

A degree in Physics will give you access to doctoral studies in physics, both in Italy and abroad, as well as to doctoral studies in other sciences in which physics plays an important role.

At the University of Trento it is possible to apply for the following PhD courses, offered by the Department of Physics:
