You will develop the skills and knowledge necessary to
- Identify and analyse national and international security issues;
- Evaluate tools and policies for managing crises, conflicts and global challenges;
- Contribute to the design, implementation and monitoring of interventions at national and international levels.
Taught entirely in English, the programme consists of three semesters of lectures and exams, followed by a semester of international mobility for work placements or research abroad to support your dissertation.
You will participate in innovative training and learning methods with internationally renowned lecturers, officials, experts and professionals:

- case-based thematic seminars.
The careers and roles that your training will prepare you for are many and varied:
- Analysts of national and international security-related phenomena, able to identify, understand and assess global challenges.
- Researchers contributing to academic and operational knowledge in the field of security.
- Officials and functionaries in positions of responsibility in national and international, governmental and non-governmental organisations.
- Experts in the design, implementation and monitoring of security policies and programmes.
- Managers capable of analysing, implementing and evaluating intervention strategies in crisis and conflict contexts.
They will be able to work in different types of organisations:
- International organisations such as the United Nations and in particular its specialised agencies (Department of Peacekeeping Operations, Disarmament Research Institute).
- European institutions and their agencies.
- Ministries, such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Ministry of Defence.
- Intelligence services and diplomatic missions.
- Non-governmental and humanitarian organisations involved in conflict, humanitarian aid, development cooperation and support for reform processes.
- Private consultancies specialising in risk management.
- Organisations working with businesses, NGOs, banks, insurance companies, media, energy, oil and mining companies, airlines and shipping companies.
- Research centres and think tanks: for analysis, policy development and the promotion of innovative security strategies.
- Universities and academic research centres: with doctoral programmes, research careers and university teaching.
According to Almalaurea (2023), the percentage of graduates employed one and three years after graduation is above average. Data on average salary, job satisfaction and the percentage of employees who use the skills acquired in their degree in their work are also higher than the average for courses in the same class.
The faculty members are scholars from the School of International Studies of the University of Trento and the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna in Pisa. They teach and conduct research at an international level in a wide range of fields:
