The Master’s degree is open to two categories of applicants:
- Europeans and Equivalents
- Non-Europeans.
To check the category you belong to, you must read the Note 1 of the Call of admission.
First call
Open only to Non-European applicants.
- Application: from 19 December 2024 to 6 March 2025 at 12:00 (CET)
- Confirmation: within the deadline communicated by UniTrento Staff
- Online pre-enrollment at the Italian Embassy for non-EU applicants: by the deadline stated by the Italian government and communicated by UniTrento staff.
Second call
Open only to Europeans and Equivalent applicants.
- Application: from 10 February to 30 May 2025 at 12:00 (CET)
- Confirmation: within the deadline communicated by UniTrento Staff.
Deadlines after admission
- Bachelor’s Degree Diploma:
- by 30 June 2025 for non-Europeans;
- by 30 September 2025 for Europeans and Equivalents;
- Enrollment: within the deadline communicated by UniTrento Staff.
- Arrival in Trento: For the start of classes in September. For Non-European students no later than 30 September 2025.
The only binding version is the Italian one
Background
A Bachelor's or first level degree of at least 3 years awarded in Italy or other qualification recognised as equivalent awarded abroad
A personal background with suitable professional, vocational and academic experience appropriate to the interdisciplinary nature of the degree course according to the disciplines characterizing the Cognitive Sciences area:
- Philosophy and linguistics
- Psychology
- Psychobiology and Cognitive neuroscience
- Mathematics
- Computer Science and Engineering.
Language proficiency
English language proficiency at B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Submit the application by the deadline:
Non European candidates: Master in Cognitive Science for Non-Europeans
European and equivalent candidates: Master in Cognitive Science for Europeans and equivalents.
Application fee: € 30,00.
Documentation required
A copy of a valid passport with photo and personal data only.
A copy of the Bachelor's degree certificate or the certificate of enrollment including the expected graduation date (Italian applicants can provide a self-declaration).
Transcipt of records including a list of all courses, exams and marks awarded, the list of exams for the qualification to be awarded, the weighted average mark and the minimum to maximum range of marks.
A statement of purpose of maximum 4.000 characters (spaces included) explaining: your motivations for attending the Master's program, a list of relevant experiences, and any extracurricular activities which may be of interest.
Curriculum vitae: a brief but complete CV in English should highlight the most important steps of your academic and professional career and include information about permanent contact and present address, phone number and email.
A letter of reference (optional): written in English or in Italian by one of your professors at University or by managers in your company. Your referee have to send the letter directly to us (mcs@unitn.it) specifying your name in the subject line. We strongly encourage you to use the sample reference letter attached.
Any supporting document that you feel may contribute to your application.
English proficiency at B2 level certified by:
- a self-declaration that you speak English as mother tongue
- a writing statement issued by your university stating that English is the official teaching language of your degree
- a Transcript of records attesting the completion of a university exam of English language knowledge at B2 level.
- An international certificate recognised by UniTrento: Accepted certificates as entry requirements for degree programmes.
If you don't have any way to prove your English knowledge when you apply, you'll have to send the certificate as soon as you are admitted to the Master's Admission Office by June 15 2025.
An official translation of each document is required, when the original document is not produced in English or Italian.
Illegible documents will not be considered and incomplete or non-submitted application forms will be automatically excluded from the selection process.
Application considered valid will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee, which will evaluate all aspects of each candidate as a whole.
Selection criteria
Academic background and reference letter, up to 50 points out of 100: transcripts of records, any other curricular activities, publications, professional experiences, stage and voluntary work, knowledge of foreign languages, reference letter (if present).
Relevance of previous studies and experience (summer schools, jobexperiencese) to the programme objectives, up to 20 points out of 100.
Statement of purpose, up to 30 points out of 100: clarity, strength of motivation, relevance to the course applied for, ability shown in English, originality.
Rankings
Once the evaluation process is completed, the admission committee places the candidates on two separate shortlists: one list for Non-Europeans and one for Europeans and Equivalents. The first 35 Non-European applicants and the first 45 European and Equivalent applicants are immediately admitted. Those who receive a score higher or equal to 50 but who are not immediatly admitted are eligible and can be admitted afterward in case some admitted students decline their places
The Ranking list with admitted candidates and scholarship assignation will be published on this page by the deadlines indicated in the Call for application paragraph.
In case you are admitted, you will be notified by email from UniTrento Staff with the instructions needed to confirm the place in the Program, such as:
- how to complete the confirmation application
- how to pay the confirmation fee of € 100,00.
If, for any reason, you decide to decline your position, pelase communicate your decision to the Master Admission Office as soon as possible in order to give other eligible students the opportunity to study at the University of Trento.
If you are a Non-European citizen living outside Italy and you have been admitted to a University Programme in Italy you must:
- pre-enrol at the Italian diplomatic office in your country;
- apply for a university study or enrolment Visa at the Italian consular-diplomatic Representative.
Since this procedure may take time, we encourage you to speed up procedures by contacting the Italian Representative as soon as possible.
You will be guided through this procedure and notified with the detailed instructions by the University of Trento as well.
Enrollment must be completed by the deadline communicated by UniTrento Staff: if you do not meet the deadline, your admission will be rejected.
Enrollment is conditional upon the positive evaluation of the eligibility of the university degree.
Further details about the enrollment to the Master’s degree will be provided via email by the administrative office in due time.
You must be in Rovereto for the start of lessons, at the beginning of September .
