What internship is
The internship is a training activity or research collaboration activity consistent with the program’s contents, with the aim to make you apply the knowledge learned and to favour your future career choices.
It is usually related to the final exam preparation and you can carry out it in two different ways:
external internship, at a company or organization external to the University of Trento.
internal internship, in one of the University of Trento Laboratories or structures.
The internship foresees:
6 credits (ECTS), that will be recognized after the completion of the activity;
150 hours of activity;
maximum duration of 5 months
you need to have gained at least 48 credits before the beginning of the internship.
The internship project must be supervised by a tutor, a teacher or researcher of the Department CIBIO or from other departments for specific projects.
External internship
The external internship takes place at a company or at other universities or other organisations outside the University of Trento, whether in Italy or abroad.
In addition to your university tutor, you must also have the supervision of an external tutor or mentor at the organisation where you are doing your placement.
To activate the traineeship:
choose an internship university tutor available to supervise your project and, if necessary, ask to the Internhsip Delegate to help you in finding one;
find the external institution where to carry out the internship, by searching in the at the Job guidance opportunities board, asking to your teachers for suggestions, do it by yourself;
finalize the internship project with your university tutor;
at least 15 days before the beginning of the internship, start the internship procedure provided by the Job Guidance Office
At the end of the internship you have to:
- write a final report;
- deliver all the documentation to the Job Guidance Office;
- as soon as the Job Guidance send you the final documents, , contact the Student Support Service for credit recognition.
Internal internship
Before starting
- Identify the Laboratory in which you will carry out the internship and the tutor that will supervise your project.
- Finalize the internship project with your tutor.
- Within the deadlines for Application delivery defined by the Department, send to the Delegate for Internship the internship application and the risk identification form undersigned by your tutor.
- The Delegate informs the Cibio secretary that the internship has been approved.
- You will receive all the information you need to start the internship one week before the starting date.
During the internship
Fill in the internship diary to be signed by your tutor.
Early start and extension
You can ask an early start of the internship or to extend its duration at the conditions described in the Guidelines for internship of CIBIO Department.
Yor tutor have to fill in the extension request form, wich must then be approved by the Delegate of internship.
End of the internship
At the end of the internship, you have to
fill in the internal internship certificate and have it signed by your tutor
send it to the Students Support Service for credit registration.

Deadlines to start the internal internship
This table lists the deadlines for starting the traineeship at the CIBIO: if you carry out your internship in the laboratories, the Safety course is compulsory.
