You will acquire knowledge of the fundamentals of pure and applied mathematics and develop skills in at least one other discipline and its mathematical applications.
Over the two years, depending on the pathway chosen, you will gain
Theoretical skills: in-depth study of the theoretical foundations of mathematics in areas such as advanced algebra, geometry, calculus, partial differential equations and dynamical systems.
Cryptography and coding theory: knowledge of modern methods in computational algebra, cryptography and error-correcting codes.
Analysis of complex systems: Skills in analysing and modelling complex biological systems, biomedical applications and mathematical finance.
Data Science and Statistics: Data analysis techniques, statistical modelling and applications in the biological and social sciences.
Teaching and communication: methods of teaching and communicating in mathematics and science, with an emphasis on effective learning.
You will work with a high degree of autonomy, taking responsibility for complex projects and developing the scientific method of investigation, logical-deductive reasoning and inductive methods related to experimentation.
Career Opportunities
The course prepares you for careers in the following areas
- Cryptography and code theory
- Mathematical finance
