How to write your statement of purpose

Your statement of purpose aims to complete your application by shedding light on your motivation for joining our Data Science program and on how you plan to make the most of the opportunity to study with us.

Ideally, your statement shall be composed of three parts:

  1. Background: an overview of your background, competencies, and motivation, and why you think they represent a good match for our Data Science program specifically, amongst so many others that are currently available.
  2. Educational Plan: an overview of how you plan to construct your path within our Data Science program, for example, by discussing what courses, seminars, and learning occasions you think are particularly important for you and why (e.g., competences that you would like to acquire, activities that you would like to realize).
  3. Future Plans: an illustration of where you see yourself in the future, career-wise and personally, and how you think our Data Science program will help you make this plan real.

All three parts are equally important, so it is advisable to find a balance in how they are developed in your statement.

Formal requirements for State of purpose

Language: English

Length: between 300 and 600 words. Please note that you will have to include a final word count at the end of your text. Longer or shorter statements of purpose will not be considered for evaluation.

Support of AI technology: You can lean on AI tools to polish your SOP language-wise or help organize the structure of your text, but you must elaborate on the above-mentioned points, starting from your personal experience and leaning on your skills. Artificial SOPs that are entirely generated with AI are highly recognizable and will not be evaluated positively in your application.
