Who can apply
Non-European citizens living outside Italy can apply through a selection call based on academic curriculum and merit.
Seats available: 6 (limited number)
A Bachelor's Degree of at least three years from an institution at university level with an adequate final graduation mark:
- for candidates with Italian Bachelor's degree, it must be equal to 90 out of 110 points or superior;
- for candidates with international title, it has to be an equivalent mark (e.g. 3/4).
40 ECTS of the previous study programme has to refer to at least two of following areas:
- Sociology
- Economics and Statistics
- Law, Political science, Social policy
- History, Anthropology, Psychology, Social Psychology and Pedagogics.
A previous background in Methodology and Social Research will be taken into considered.
For candidates not fulfilling the curricular requirements, the Evaluation Committee can take into consideration other academic and extra-academic activities or require further documents or a selection interview.
English language proficiency at B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages is required.
You can prove it through:
- pertinent recognized language certificates as entry requirements. See the list of Accepted certificates for admission to study programs (point 2).
- final diploma of a Bachelor or Master course entirely held in English
- English language exam passed during the Bachelor's or Master's degree
- citizenship of an English speaking country.

Bachelor's degree graduation:
- by June 30, 2026, for non-Europeans graduating outside Italy
- by October 31, 2026, for Europeans and equivalents and for non Europeans graduating in Italy with valid study permit

An official translation of each document is required, when the original document is not produced in English or Italian.
Illegible documents will not be considered and incomplete or non-submitted application forms will be excluded from the selection process.
When you submit your application, you must upload the following documents.
- Copy of a valid passport or identity card with photo and personal data only (unless you login with a recognized italian digital identity).
- Copy of Bachelor's Degree certificate or registration certificate attesting the expected graduation date. Students enrolled in Italian universities will upload a self-declaration
- Transcript of records including a list of all courses, exams, academic disciplines (SSD), marks obtained, the weighted average mark and the minimum to maximum range of marks. Students enrolled in Italian universities will upload a self-declaration based on the template attached.
- Curriculum vitae et studiorum following the European template Europass
- English Language proficiency qualification, as described in Language requirements.
- Statement of purpose, a brief personal statement in English in which the candidate supports her or his application.
- Syllabi of courses belonging to academic disciplines INF/01 and/or ING-INF/05 (not required for students graduated in Computer Science).
English proficiency at B2 level certified as described in the Language requirements.
How to write your statement of purpose
You must write your own original statement of purpose in English of minimum 2.000 and maximum 4.000 characters spaces included.
The aim of the State of purpose is to support your application describing your interests and expectations in relation to the programme’s learning objectives, such as:
- your motivations and goals for applying to this program;
- your knowledges (for example: computer, methodological or analytical skills);
- how you will might be enhanced by this master's degree;
- how you're planning to organize your studies and which skills are you expecting to acquire
- which type of career would you like to pursue after the graduation and how do you think you'll be able to benefit from the expertise gained with this master's degree.
Statements including copy-pasting or plagiarism of someone else's work will receive a negative evaluation.
If you already gained credits at Master's Degree level and would like to know how many credits could be transferred in case of admission, you send tto the Master manager via email:
- the Credit transfer pre-evaluation form
- a copy of your ID document or passport
- the transcript of records
- the courses syllabus.
You can send the request until February 15, 2026.
UniTrento will send you the evaluation results by March 15, 2026.
The admission Committee will evaluate the entry requirements of each candidate taccording to the programme regulations.

In case you are admitted, you will be notified by email from UniTrento Staff with the instructions needed to confirm the place.

Declining your position
If you decide not to enroll, please inform the Master Admission Office as soon as possible via email. Your prompt notice can make a real difference, giving another student the chance to enroll on time.
Before you can officially enrol at the University of Trento, you must:
- complete the “Pre-enrolment” application specified at Step 6 of Universitaly - First steps page
- apply for a study Visa for enrolment at the Italian consulate or embassy in your country.
This procedure may take time: please speed up procedures by contacting the Italian Representative as soon as possible.
You will be guided through this procedure and notified with detailed instructions by the University of Trento as well, after admission.
Enrollment must be completed by the deadline stated in the call for admission: if you do not meet the deadline, your admission will be rejected.
Enrollment is conditional upon the positive evaluation of the eligibility of the university degree.
Further details about the enrollment to the Master’s degree will be provided via email by the Master Admission Office in due time.
You must be in Trento for the start of classes, in early September: the exact arrival date will be notified by the University staff in Summer.
Lessons take place only in person.
