The Master’s Degree in Intelligent Mechatronics Engineering prepares you to design and develop the next generation of intelligent technological systems. Today’s products are no longer purely mechanical: they are complex, connected and autonomous systems where mechanics, electronics, control and artificial intelligence work together.

In this programme, you will learn how to integrate physical design, advanced control and AI-driven software into high-performance mechatronic systems capable of perception, adaptation and autonomous decision-making. You will combine rigorous engineering foundations with extensive laboratory work, interdisciplinary projects and real interaction with industry.

The course is structured into four specialised curricula:

  • Mechanics, where you will deepen advanced methods for modelling, simulation and design of mechanical systems, smart materials and energy conversion technologies.
  • Robotics and Intelligent Vehicles, where you will develop competencies in cutting-edge robotics, distributed perception, autonomous driving and AI-based control of intelligent machines.
  • Space Systems and Instruments, where you will study how to design space missions, spacecraft systems, remote sensing technologies and onboard intelligent computing for space applications.
  • Electronics and Smart Energy Systems, where you will focus on microelectronics, IoT technologies, power electronics and smart grids for sustainable and connected energy systems.

The programme concludes with an extended internship and thesis project, giving you the opportunity to combine them into a structured professional experience lasting up to an entire semester, in collaboration with leading companies and research institutions in Italy or abroad.

Why enroll?

A Degree redesigned with students

The programme has been restructured following input from students. The new curricula respond directly to emerging technologies and evolving professional profiles.

Four curricula, flexible structure

You choose a main curriculum and complement it with selected courses from other tracks. This flexible structure allows you to build a specialised yet versatile engineering profile.

Internship and thesis in real contexts

You may integrate internship and thesis into a semester-long professional experience. Projects can be developed with companies and research institutions in Italy or abroad.

Laboratory and Project-Based Learning

Laboratory activities, simulations and interdisciplinary projects are central to the programme. You develop technical expertise through structured hands-on experiences and applied problem solving.

Close interaction between students and faculty

A favourable student–faculty ratio ensures direct interaction with professors. You benefit from continuous guidance, discussion and active participation throughout your studies.

Research and Industry in the classroom

You will learn from professors actively engaged in international research and in collaboration with industry. This ensures that what you study reflects current technologies, real applications and emerging industrial needs.

An international learning environment

The programme is taught in English to prepare you for a global engineering career. You develop the communication skills required to work in multinational companies and research environments worldwide.

Testimonials

The Double Degree Program at the University of Trento enriched my academic journey by combining the educational approaches of Italy and Germany. The unique opportunity to attend courses in multiple languages enhanced both my technical and linguistic skills.

Primo piano volto di una studentessa laureata che racconta la sua esperienza

What I appreciate most about the Master’s Degree in Mechatronics Engineering is its multidisciplinary approach. The program gives you the basic knowledge of a wide range of different topics and teaches you how to describe them with the proper models. The combination of these aspects allows you to face problems that go beyond what is strictly seen in the courses.
