Non-European citizens can be admitted to the Master's degree by public selection.
To check the exact definition of "Non-Europeans", you must read the Note 1 of the Call of admission.
Maximum number of Non-European students: 6.
- Application: from 18 December 2024 to 6 March 2025 at 12:00 (CET)
- Credit transfer pre-evaluation request (optional): by 15 February 2025 (evaluation results by 15 March 2025).
- Rankings: by 30 April 2025.
- Confirmation: within 7 days of the admission notice.
- Online pre-enrollment at the Italian Embassy for non-EU applicants: by the deadline stated by the Italian government and communicated by UniTrento staff.
- Bachelor’s Degree Diploma: by 30 June 2025
- Enrollment:
- Students already holding their Bachelor’s Degree by 30 September 2025
- Students not holding theyr degree yet, within one week from the graduation and anyway by 8 November 2025.
- Arrival in Trento: Mid September and no later than 30 September 2025.
The only binding version is the Italian one
Academic background
A bachelor's degree of at least three years from an institution at university level with an adequate final graduation mark:
- for candidates with Italian Bachelor's degree, it must be equal to 90 out of 110 points or superior;
- for candidates with international title, it has to be an equivalent mark (e.g. 3/4).
One third (60 ECTS) of the previous study programme has to refer to at least two of following areas:
- Sociology
- Economics and Statistics
- Law, Political science, Social policy
- History, Anthropology, Psychology, Social Psychology and Pedagogics.
A previous background in Methodology and Social Research will be taken into considered.
For candidates not fulfilling the curricular requirements, the Evaluation Committee can take into consideration other academic and extra-academic activities or require further documents or a selection interview.
Language proficiency
English language proficiency at least level B1 of the European Common Framework, certified through:
- pertinent recognized language certificates as entry requirements
- final diploma of a Bachelor or Master course entirely held in English
- English language exam passed during the Bachelor's or Master's degree
- citizenship of an English speaking country.
Submit the online application for Master in Sociology and Social Research for Non-EU citizens 2025-2026 by the deadline.
Application fee: € 30,00.
Selection criteria
- Academic background and reference letter, up to 45 points out of 100.
- Relevance of previous studies and experience to the course objectives, up to 35 points out of 100.
- Statement of purpose, up to 20 points out of 100.

If you already gained credits at Master's Degree level and would like to know how many credits could be transferred in case of admission, you send tto the Master manager via email:
- the Credit transfer pre-evaluation form
- a copy of your ID document or passport
- the transcript of records
- the courses syllabus.
You can send the request until February 15, 2025.
UniTrento will send you the evaluation results by March 15, 2025.
In case you are admitted, you will be notified by email from UniTrento Staff with the instructions needed to confirm the place in the Program, such as:
- how to complete the confirmation application
- how to pay the confirmation fee of € 100,00.
If, for any reason, you decide to decline your position, pelase communicate your decision to the Master Admission Office Science and Technology area as soon as possible in order to give other eligible students the opportunity to study at the University of Trento.
If you are a Non-European citizen living outside Italy and you have been admitted to a University Programme in Italy you must:
- pre-enrol at the Italian diplomatic office in your country;
- apply for a university study or enrolment Visa at the Italian consular-diplomatic Representative.
Since this procedure may take time, we encourage you to speed up procedures by contacting the Italian Representative as soon as possible.
You will be guided through this procedure and notified with the detailed instructions by the University of Trento as well.
Enrollment must be completed by the deadline stated in the call for admission: if you do not meet the deadline, your admission will be rejected.
Enrollment is conditional upon the positive evaluation of the eligibility of the university degree.
Further details about the enrollment to the Master’s degree will be provided via email by the Master Admission Office in due time.
You must be in Trento for the start of lessons, by Mid September.
