You will be able to tackle and solve complex and advanced civil engineering problems in its various fields. You will have transferable skills in several areas

Design, analysis, construction and control of civil and industrial structures, using both traditional materials (concrete, steel, wood) and advanced materials (composites, metamaterials); you will also have a special focus on exceptional actions (earthquakes, wind, fire, natural events, etc.).

Rehabilitation of civil and industrial structures, with a particular focus on reducing seismic vulnerability and on the compatibility of interventions with the principles of conservation (reversibility, minimum impact) and environmental sustainability (use of sustainable materials such as wood), also with reference to buildings of historical or monumental interest.

the design, construction, management and maintenance of infrastructure works (roads, bridges and hydraulic works), underground structures, support structures and foundations, with a strong knowledge of new digital technologies (sensors, telecommunications, data inversion techniques, optimisation and artificial intelligence, decision support systems)

Integrated design of buildings, developed in a digital BIM/HBIM (Building Information Modeling/Heritage Building Information Modeling) environment, in the different phases of design, construction, management, maintenance and decommissioning, with a focus on energy saving, comfort and innovation of technical/technological systems in new and existing civil works.

Learning by doing' approach: you will learn through workshops and design exercises integrated into the courses, with a balance of theory and practice on real case studies.

Cutting-edge skills: you will learn to use advanced technologies such as BIM, finite element method, smart sensors, machine learning and artificial intelligence, in addition to traditional civil engineering methods

Part of the lectures are delivered in English.

Excellent student-faculty ratio: the academic environment is ideally sized, with direct and informal contact with professors, in line with the best international universities.

 Career opportunities

You will be able to enter the world of work immediately, in Europe and internationally, in senior professional positions and take on management roles and responsibilities. Possible career opportunities include

  • Professional firms and advanced design companies for works, plants and infrastructure

  • Construction companies

  • Public bodies and offices for the design, planning, management and control of buildings, urban and territorial systems and transport systems

  • Insurance and consultancy companies

  • Professional firms and start-ups in a rapidly changing sector

Further Studies

With a Master's degree in Civil Engineering, you will have access to numerous European and international postgraduate courses. If you choose to stay in Trento, you will have access to

  •  The Honours Programme in Advanced Methods in Engineering
